Final evaluation

My set up
Overall I was quite happy with how my assessment turned out. I think I went into the room with a clear vision of what I wanted, and how I was going to achieve my look.

To start off I set up my area, making sure it was clean and tidy, with clean brushes and palettes. I sat my model down and made sure the chair was at the correct height for me. I then put a gown on her so that nothing was spilled on her. I made sure she was comfortable and happy and then I began.

I started at 9:30 and had a timings list, so I knew exactly how long I needed for everything. I moisturised her face, and pinned back her hair to keep it out of her face. I did her makeup first, as I knew I wanted to spend a while on it, but also as I knew the hair wouldn't take me too long. If I was using heated appliances on it, I probably would have started with it.

The products used:

Mac studio fix – NC20. Buffed into the skin for a really full coverage look.
Mac concealer palette – NC30, Mid- yellow, Mid- peach. I then took this under the eyes, corners of nose and the chin, to get rid of bags, redness and any blemishes.
Ben Nye powder – Translucent. Small amount over the face, and under eyes, to get rid of too much shine.
Mac blush – Harmony. I used two contours, to get a really sculpted effect.
Sleek contour palette. Added this underneath Harmony, on hollows of cheeks, temples, nose, jawline.
Nars Highlighter- Albatross. I wanted her face to appear golden and glowing so added lots of highlighter on the cheekbones, down the nose and above the lip, which really stood out.
Mac eyebrow pencil – Lingering. I used this to get the general shape of the brow.
Anastasia Beverly hills dip brow – Soft brown. I then used this to fill in her brow.
Mac eyeshadow – White frost, Dazzle, light, Shroom, Satin Taupe. I used the lighter colours under the brow bone, and on the inner corner of the eye to highlight it.
Sleek eyeshadow palette – The original. Using the gold I dabbed it on the eyelid building it up until the eyelid was coated in gold shadow. I then went in with darker gold, in the crease and outer corner to create depth.
Revoloution eyeshadow palette – Redemption palette Iconic 1. Taking darker golds/browns I brushed them into her socket line and under the eye.
Kryolan liquid liner – Black. Taking the eyeliner I created a thin winged liner on top of the lid.
Kryolan eyeliner – White, Using the pencil I drew it onto her waterline to open up the eye.
Eyelure lashes + Duo Glue. Added eyelashes for a more exaggerated eye.
Mac Haute & Naughty mascara – Black. Coated the lashes in mascara so that they weren't visible against the eyelashes.

Makeup forever flash palette – Silver & Gold. Applied to lips
Golden gems. Stuck on inner corner of eye with duo glue.

Once I was happy with the makeup I moved onto the hair. For this I gave myself about 45 minutes. I started by sectioning off the hair down the middle, and from ear to ear. I left the front section, so that I had something to pull back over the extensions.

I started at the bottom of the head clipping the extensions in, and braiding her hair into them. I then sprayed the extension with dry shampoo, so it wasn't so slippery and gave it a small amount of backcombing. Once I had finished the braid I backcombed the end, instead of using a hairband, as it looked better and gave a more medieval feel. As I started the second layer I tried to grip the hair over the first extensions, before adding the second layer of extensions.  I carried this on until I got to the top layer, and then repeated it on the other side. I then took the top layer of hair, backcombed it slightly and tied it with an elastic band at the back. I then pushed it up into itself and gripped it in place. I then made sure it was the same on both sides, and gripped it wherever I could see any extensions.
The only thing that I didn't like about the hair was that it had a slight wave in it on the top, which I sprayed with hairspray and tried to comb through, but it just ended up clumping together. Looking back if I had straightened this out, I think it would have made my look stronger.
I think that it looked quite symmetrical on both sides which I was pleased about. I tried to do the same plaits on each side, as I did an array of different braids on each side. I did this because I wanted to make the hair a bit more interesting, give it some different textures, and make it look a bit more rustic, and I am happy with how it turned out.

I was also happy with how the makeup went, although when I went for my shoot, and I took off the mask, it had left red imprints on her skin, so I had to touch up, which I should have thought about in advance.

Overall I was pretty pleased with how my look came together overall. I think that after this project I really realise the importance of developing along with a project, and how it influences your ideas. I think that I could have probably been a bit more experimental with my look, but I was happy with how it looked as piece. I think the main reason I didn't go overboard with the makeup was because the mask was quite busy and so was the hair. I have learnt a lot about myself and how I work over the course of this project,
and this course as a whole.

As a whole my timekeeping skills have definitely improved, and so has my confidence. When I first started this course I had only done bits and pieces of makeup, mostly on friends. I was confident at applying makeup to myself, but putting it on other people was nerve-wracking. In this respect my confidence has definitely improved in leaps and bounds. This is because I know what I am doing what to use and how to apply it. This also benefited my timekeeping skills, as I am no longer faffing about wondering what to apply.

I think that one thing I definitely needed to improve on when I started was keeping up to date with projects and being organised. I did find it hard to juggle the workload and a job, but I managed to do it. I think that moving forward to the next year, it is something I still have lots of room to improve upon.

In terms of skills, I have changed in so many ways. Before this course I had never even really contemplated hair, but Since beginning I have found that I actually quite enjoy it. I think that learning styles from different periods is really interesting, as well as being able to create a crazy avant-garde look.

Overall, I think that this year has really given me a confidence boost, in makeup and hair, as well as personally, in a way that I am more comfortable with new people, and myself. I think that I definitely still have room to improve for the next year, but have really enjoyed this year and all the people I have met.
