New York Fashion Week SS15

The first thing that caught my eye about the show by Diesel Black Gold was the androgynous feel that it had. For SS15, the hair on the models was slicked back into a ponytail, and the makeup was clean with a dark eye.  I liked the contrast of masculine and feminine with this collection. How the masculine slick backs contrast with the girly prints and shapes of the clothes, and the dark makeup reflects the dark clothing.  The lead makeup artist for this show was world renowned artist Pat McGrath.  On her Twitter (https://twitter.com/patmcgrathreal) it showed products she used for this look.

The main feature of this look was the eyes, which were heavily lined with black eyeliner, on the top and bottom of the eye. I think this suits the collection as it gives off quite a dark rock feel, and the show notes described it as "stylised new-wave rockabillies." The lashes were also coated with black mascara to add to the dark look, and it looks as if there was a light grey/ taupe colour added into the crease line, to give more depth to the eye but not overpower it.
The brows on the girls are minimally filled in, so that they simply frame the face rather than attract all attention to them. I think it would be likely that would have been filled in with powder, and then gone over with a pencil, to fill in any gaps and stray hairs.

The face is quite natural, with a base that looks like it is medium coverage, and concealer under the eyes, to achieve a clean look. The cheeks look contoured, to give a more intense look for the face than just bronzer or blush, which suits the dark look of the collection.
Finally the lips are quite natural, and looks as if a light pink was applied, just to give them a flushed look. I think this balances out the face nicely, as its not too dark, distracting from the eyes.

Overall I really liked the overall look of this collection, and thought the dark androgynous hair and makeup balanced out with the clothing. If i was to recreate a look like this, I would possibly change the lip colour to something darker, making it look slightly vampy just to see how it changes the look.
