Health & Safety

Health & safety is a very important part of any workplace, and should always be put into practice correctly.
Surfaces should always be clear of rubbish and other product, and when setting up you should always have something to put your products down onto. Most commonly we use a towel or couch roll. Upon setting up, brushes should always be clean as working with dirty brushes is unhygienic.

Bags and coats should be hung or put away appropriately to avoid trips and falls, as well as wires on any electrical appliances you will be using. Once your client is sat down you need to assess if they are at the right height. This can reduce the chances of RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury).
When setting up there should be a designated area to put dirty tissues, pads and brushes, so that they can't be used again, and spatula should be handy, to remove products from palettes. This reduces the chances of things such as cross contamination.
Assessing a clients skin or scalp, can also reduce chances of passing on or catching any infections. This can be avoided by using disposable tools such as mascara wands and cotton buds.

The most important thing is that you and are client are comfortable in the workplace, and around each other. Personal hygiene is a very easy, but important part of health & safety, and can be achieved by simply looking after yourself. Simple things like making sure your hands are washed before touching a client are easy ways to achieve a happy workplace and and a satisfied client.
