i-D

I-D is a British magazine, created in 1980 by former art director of Vogue Terry Jones. The magazine is very strongly influenced by street style, and youth is central to the magazine in every issue. This is shown through the people they use and its content.

I-D is mostly aimed at a younger audience, similar to that of LOVE. Its use of people from many different creative fields, suggests that the reader will know who they are. You have pop culture celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Artists like Gaga, but also designers such as Karl Largerfeld and Vivienne Westwood. This suggests that people will know who they are, so mainly people in creative industries. The magazine also has a fun youthful feel to it, which attracts a younger audience.

The logo is interesting as it is a reflection of the cover. The i-D turned on its side replicates the winking face of the model, which has graced almost every cover. The models eye is almost always closed or covered by a hand, hair, or prop. It kind of gives the magazine a brand identity and has a quirky playful feel, different to any other I have seen.

Editorial for i-D Summer 2012
Inside i-D keeps its youthful vibes, with raunchy editorials, and advertising from Calvin Klein, and designers like The Kooples, which adds more of young, punk, effect to the magazine.

I think that i-D really captures the essence of youth fashion, and incorporates fashion, music, film, and other creative fields into one amazing magazine. It definitely is one of my favourite magazines to look at for inspiration and visuals.
