Alexander McQueen's SS11 collection has quite a lot of rustic undertones to it. Its messy, but well constructed look really fits with my project theme as I think I want to incorporate this type of style. The use of golds and whites in the collection is very goddess like, whilst still keeping a kind of warrior feel.
The hair for this look was created by hair stylist Guido, and was reminiscent of basket weaving. He explained that "The hair started with Pagans and Wicca and basket weaving the collection is about going back to nature, and the hair is meant to be like straw,". I really like the interesting texture it created for the look, although I feel like it would take up a lot of time if I were to try and achieve a look like this. I really like how they finish at one braid at the end, almost dread-lock looking.
For the makeup, artist Peter Phillips explained that the look was very pure, only using ivory eyeshadow on the eyes, and highlighter on the high points of the face. I think this suits the look as the complexity of the hair stands out, and a strong makeup would probably have looked too much. I really liked the highlighted look, and is something I want to incorporate into my look.
Another look by McQueen I really liked was the AW14 look, which also had a very strong warrior-esque vibe to it, almost taking elements of the previous collection and creating a darker look. One thing I really like about this look is how highlighted it is. It really makes the features stand out without using a lot of product to create a strong look. I also really like the use of gold on the eyes. This is something I am keen to try for my look, as my mask is gold and I think trying a muted gold eye would compliment it.
